A hymn celebrating the Eucharist—“O Christ, our Manna in the Wild” (CM)

O Christ, our manna in the wild

1.
O Christ, our Manna in the wild,
Our hearth‑fire on the hill,
You walk the paths of Erin’s fields
Where ancient winds breathe still.
2.
Your Body, once for sinners given,
Is offered here anew;
Your Blood, outpoured upon the earth,
Makes all creation true.
3.
By Brigid’s flame and Patrick’s staff,
By saints who roam the height,
You feed us with the Living Bread—
The Feast of God’s own Light.
4.
The ash and oak keep vigil here,
The thorn sings soft and low;
For all creation feels the peace
Your quiet wounds bestow.
5.
On bog and lough, on mountain pass,
Your altar‑presence stays;
In every thin-place of the soul
You kindle Euch’rist’s blaze.
6.
So send us forth, O Christ our Host,
From chalice, cup, and sign;
That we may bear Your healing peace
Made strong by Bread and Wine.

Reflection

Bread for the Journey

Corpus Christi reminds us that Christ is not only present at the altar but walks with us through the landscapes of our daily lives. In this hymn, the Eucharist is woven into the fields, bogs, hills, and thin places of Ireland, revealing a God who feeds creation with grace and gathers us into His peace.

The Bread and Wine are not an escape from the world but a gift for it. Nourished by Christ’s presence, we are sent out to become bearers of healing, hospitality, and hope wherever our pilgrimage leads.
