Written in honour of the Anglican Consultative Council that is meeting in Belfast soon hosted by the Church of Ireland.
I have written a 4-stanza hymn that directly reflects this year’s theme, “Called to One Hope.” It purposefully anchors the global Communion within our local landscape—referencing Belfast’s heights, lough, and river—before expanding outward into our shared missional calling.
1.
From Belfast’s heights our voices rise,
its lough and river shine;
called to one hope in Christ our Lord,
our lives in him align.
2.
From every coast and island home,
from plains and oceans wide,
we come as one, in one great hope,
with Christ our only guide.
3.
In many tongues his praises sound,
yet one in heart we stand;
the Spirit keeps our common hope
across each sea and land.
4.
Now send us forth in fearless love
to serve in every place;
that one hope lived in word and deed
may show the world your grace.
