Otto sits gently by my side,
Grey Belfast hoodie wrapped with pride;
A quiet friend who does not speak,
Yet offers calm when days feel bleak.
His soft paws rest within my own,
A steadying weight I’ve always known;
He comes to dialysis with me too,
And helps me face what I must do.
When noise or brightness starts to swell,
He anchors me and all is well;
No speeches made, no grand display,
Just presence holding fear at bay.
A hush of fur, a cotton fold,
A grounding warmth that can’t grow old;
And in that stillness, soft and true,
He keeps his watch the whole day through.
A steadfast bear who helps me stay
Rooted and safe along the way;
A gentle friend in hoodie grey,
Who steadies me from day to day.
Written while on dialysis today.
