NeuroDivine

celebrating neurodivergence and spirituality

Night Watch

On nights when my husband is not well, our cats call me to keep watch. This image and poem honour NeuroDivine care—where animals serve as sentinels, attention becomes prayer, and love stands vigil in quiet hours.

Night Watch

The house lies still in shadowed hush,
yet soft paws stir the air;
the cats come whispering through the dark
to say, “Go see him there.”

I rise before they finish calls—
love moves before the mind;
I walk the quiet hallway’s length
to breathe his breath in kind.

I count each rise, each gentle fall,
a prayer I know by heart;
the cats sit waiting at the door,
each playing their small part.

I smooth the blanket at his side,
and touch his resting hand;
“All’s well,” I murmur to the cats,
who by the doorway stand.

Then softly, with their lantern eyes,
they turn on careful feet;
they pad ahead and curl once more
in vigil at his feet.

Written during the night while Andrew has not been well.
